1/67 Diecast Tomica Hummer H2 by Takara-Tomy
I got this for my son a few days ago and sneaked it away from him while he was sleeping in order to take some pictures. Its a 1/67 Hummer H2 from Takara Tomy's Tomica line of diecast toys.
I grew up playing with Matchbox and even Majorette miniature diecast cars but when my parents came home one day from a business trip to Japan I got blown away with the quality of the Tomica toy that they bought for me. It was a military truck and was truly pleased with the quality and realism of the diecast toy. Chiefly because the toy was so detailed and even had springs on its wheels to simulate shock absorbers.
I remember also being impressed with the presence of "tire treads" on the wheels. Your average Matchbox toy at that time had flat no-tread wheels. I had fun playing with that truck on dirt and making "tire-tracks" on the sand.
This Hummer H2 from Takara Tomy also has the same "springs" on its wheels and treads. You can just marvel at the amount of detail put in this diecast toy. Not only with the external panel lines but also with the addition of the "H2" and "Hummer" logos at the chassis. It also has a "gimmick" of the rear door opening up and you can see the nicely detailed seats and interior. The Tomica line of diecast toys is definitely a worthy collectible because of the quality put in by Takara Tomy.
I bought this at a toy store for about $3.50. I think its a bit pricey since it was a "branded" toy store but for the quality, I think it was well worth it. You can also order this online direct from Japan. Its selling for 360 yen at HobbyLink Japan, 338 yen at HWJapan. It might be bit a cheaper from there but you might have to factor in the shipping cost, because of the weight of the diecast toy it will take a toll on the final freight calculation.
